Africa Schoolhouse was founded on relationships with Tanzanians that go back for decades.
In 2006 elders from Ntulya village approached founder Dr. Aimée Bessire with their dream of building a school for their children and a medical clinic for the entire community. Dr. Bessire, who has had a relationship with the people of Ntulya since 1994, left the conversation determined to take action. She assembled the Africa Schoolhouse board over the next six months.
We remain a grass-roots organization with steadfast goals: construct excellent, safe buildings that promote education and good health in partnership with local communities by emphasizing innovative, safe practices and the use of sustainable materials.
